I’m not gonna lie to y’all, this summer has felt heavy for me like it has for most people. Not just globally, nationally, but even locally here in Indy. With the recent terrible floodings that has caused pain and suffering here in Indiana and Indianapolis, but also places such as Nepal and Japan has been absolutely devastating. It’s felt challenging to notice the glimmers and small delights present in our every day life. But with the ending of summer and slowly (hopefully) shifting into the autumn season, I wanted to share my last Seasonal Sensory Experiencing for summer.
Sight
Exploring State Parks
We got a state park pass this year and are trying our best to make it to at least one state park every month! So far we’ve been to Turkey Run, Fort Harrison (a few times) and most recently Mounds!
Turkey Run State Park
Flowers and veggies in the garden
This was my first year trying to grow a veggie garden, but I’m not sure it’s quite for me and that I’m cut out for it. I much prefer sticking to flowers and watching the sweet bees, butterflies, and pollinators enjoy the nectar. I especially love the bumble bees and monarchs.
Eiteljorg Museum
My partner and I took a week off at the end of August and beginning of September and got to do some cool fun things here in the city. Specifically we were able to got to the Eiteljorg Museum for the first time ever FOR FREE because of first Friday! Beautiful museum with some beautiful artwork and they are also currently working on a new exhibit that I would love to go back for to see!
Feast of Lanterns
One of the highlights of summer is the near east side Feast of Lanterns. I was lucky enough to go with some dear friends and enjoy some good food, drinks, music and hangs!
Sound
Kesha Concert
I was again lucky enough to go to the Kesha concert with some dear friends. Kesha put on such a great show and was so phenominal to see live. I’d highly recommend seeing her if you can!
Ray Lamontagne album
I splurged on a Ray vinyl last month for his 20th anniversary of Trouble from Luna record store. I also got Rooted from Golden Hour Bookstore!
Touch
Sunshine on my face and skin
While I’m not a huge fan of the heat, it’s been so nice to feel the sun on my face, just don’t forget your sunscreen!
Boat day
My friends and I rented a boat on Lake Monroe in July and it was so nice to get to ride on the boat and enjoy the lake water! A storm did come in the afternoon so we had to wrap it up early, but it was such a lovely time!
Taste
Fresh ripe strawberries and zucchini bread
My favorite fruit is strawberries and it’s been lovely having some fresh from the farmers market! I also recently made some gluten free zucchini bread and it was amazing!
Modita
On our week off near the end of August, my partner and I got to see Tony at Kan Kan (great movie) then went over to Modita for some great food. The meal was absolutely delicious. I especially love and recommend the brussel sprouts and short ribs if you ever get a chance to go there! And as always my drink of choice is a classic daquari and they did a wonderful job!
This is my last seasonal sensory experiencing for the foreseeable future. Even though the world can be heavy, I hope you slow down to notice the little glimmers, small joys, and delights in your life and all around you.
